Through Francisco’s Eyes: A New Energy for Golf
Aug 14, 2026
For Francisco, understanding MATIZE did not take long.
When he arrived on set, one of the founders was wearing a T-shirt that read “Skateboarding is the new golf.” It was a small detail, but one that seemed to capture the identity of the brand straight away: firmly rooted in golf, while open to challenging some of the conventions around it.
“It is a golf brand, but at the same time, much more than that.”
What stood out to Francisco was the way MATIZE takes a traditional universe and gives it a different kind of energy. Not by moving away from golf, but by opening up what the game can represent today and connecting it with contemporary culture, aesthetics and a more relaxed attitude.

More Than a Classic Golf Brand
That first impression continued throughout the shoot.
For Francisco, MATIZE did not feel like a classic golf brand, but rather a new interpretation of the game and of the culture that surrounds it.
The distinction was not only in the clothes. It was also present in the way the brand communicates, the content it creates and the visual language of its campaigns, building an identity that feels connected to golf without being limited by its more traditional codes.
“It is almost a new interpretation of what golf can represent today.”

A 90s-Inspired Feeling
The Peninsula Drop also gave Francisco a very specific visual feeling, one strongly connected to the return of 90s-inspired aesthetics.
Wide clothing, strong patterns and relaxed silhouettes gave the collection a clear attitude of its own. For him, those references felt naturally connected to both the image of MATIZE and the atmosphere created during the session.
“There was an immediate connection to the image of the brand and to the environment of the session.”

A Natural Connection on Set
Beyond the collection itself, some of Francisco’s strongest memories from the shoot came from the people he met on set.
In particular, he remembers the moments shared with Richard, who played his father during the session.
“He was a very special person to meet and we created a very natural connection right away.”
That connection became one of the most memorable parts of the experience, adding something spontaneous and human to the story being created in front of the camera.

A Small Team with Vision
Francisco also left the session with a strong impression of the people working behind MATIZE.
Being surrounded by a small, independent team with a clear desire to make things happen became an important part of how he understood the project.
For him, that energy also reflected something wider about entrepreneurship in Portugal: building with limited resources, but with vision, initiative and the courage to take ideas forward.
“I think that represents very well entrepreneurship in Portugal: people with few resources but with a lot of vision, initiative and courage to take ideas forward.”

Identity, Personality and Ambition
By the end of the shoot, Francisco’s first impression of MATIZE had only become clearer.
“I left with the idea that MATIZE is a brand with identity, personality and ambition.”
More than the clothes or the campaign itself, the session gave him a closer look at the people, ideas and energy behind the brand.
And for Francisco, being part of that process was something worth remembering.
“I felt proud to contribute, even if just a little, to a project like this.”

MATIZE, through Francisco’s eyes, is more than a golf brand. It is a new way of looking at the game: more relaxed, more cultural, more contemporary and full of its own personality.
